Found Poem

Last term Mrs Hancock taught us how to make a found poem. The steps of making it are quite simple.
First we had to cut out random words from a magazine or a news paper. Then we had to make a sentence, quote or a saying out of those words. To present it we had to glue it on colored card.
Here is my found poem. -------->
It says: Dream big and love the life you have.

Angry Bird

Angry Bird

If looks can kill, survival would be a whole lot easier, but that brings me to today when the angry look failed. I strutted through the forest (it was the kind of forest that gives you the shivers, the sun shines through the leaves and the fog glows in the dawn.) I could feel the forest floor soften under foot as something rustled in the nearby bush, I pecked around at the forest floor and stopped suddenly hearing the noise again.

Looking around I couldn't see anything because the fog was too thick to see a few feet ahead of be. Unable to move I could feel something breathing down my feathery neck, I turned around to see something I wish I didn’t see: it was a green, scaley snake looking me evilly in the eye.

I made a decision in the blink of an eye: stare at him. After what seemed like hours, the snake looked at me strangely a slipped off. I followed the snake full of curiosity. Flying through the old misty forest, the trees clawing me as I flew past. The snake suddenly stopped and stared like some had put him on freeze. Without realising I was still flying I ran into something old, something rickety, rickety as in it’s going to fall apart any second now.

Crash!Bang! The snake and I winced as the building broke. I thought that was it but it wasn’t it, a wolfhound bounded out an howled, “ what is it boy?” asked one of the men that just came back from hunting. I used my angry face power for a few minutes. Come on….. Come on….. The wolf and the snake were having the fight of their life, while I was staring and staring and staring.

The snake lost and and slipped off, now it was up to me. It was now or never… SKWORK!!!! The angry look failed, the vicious wolf had bitten me. That was the end of the angry look.  Frighted after the bite a stubbled back into the forest wishing I would never see that wolfhound again.

One Point Perspective Art

One Point Perspective
Goal: to use precise vocabulary related to the topic.

Image result for One point perspectiveOne point perspective where everything going to one point in the drawing, picture, etc. Here is an example:-->

When you draw it everything points to the vanishing point, it creates an illusion, making it look like the road*, railway*, bridge* is going into the horizon.

The first step we took to draw an one point perspective picture is to draw a X to fill he page then draw the buildings in one of the sides of the X and trees on the other. After we had finished those two steps, the next thing we did was draw the details of the buildings and sky.
Then color with water colored pencils, then we painted water over the pencil to mix the colors.

I ended up with a picture that I'm proud of:
Now we are doing one more piece of one point perspective but it is buildings looking into the one point in the sky.

*all those things have to be long and straight otherwise it doesn't work.

Survival Swimming

Survival Swimming

On Wednesday Room 3 & 4 (Year 7 & 8 classes) went to the Stratford pools to do survival skills. There, Emma (lifeguard) and Ashley (swimming teacher) taught us how to stay safe in the water. Ashley taught us how to throw a rope to someone in the water, and Emma taught us the survival position, how to take clothes (and life jackets) off and back on, in the water, and how to swim in a group.

When I was with Ashley, we paired up. I jumped in the while my partner (Aylah) held the rope. The first instruction was to act like you’re drowning, then she told the others how to hold the rope and throw it. When our partner threw the rope I had to grab hold of the rope and let our partner pull us in.

When we were with Emma we got into two groups, girls and boys. The first thing we did was put some life jackets on and jumped into the water, the safe way: feet first. Then Emma told us to form a circle and put our legs in the middle, in the circle (to hold onto each other for the circle and the line, you had to hold the person under the armpits) we had to make our way from one side of the pool to another. Still in our groups we formed a line and made our way across the pool. Next we had to try not touch the bottom of the pool while we taking our life jackets off, and the same with clothes.

I have learnt how to pull each other out with the rope, also how to do the survival position. After the survival lessons I felt a bit scared of the water.
